Define what the furniture needs to do
Write down who will use the furniture, what it needs to hold and where it will go. A wardrobe, for example, may need hanging space, drawers and shelves in different proportions. These everyday needs are useful starting points for your design conversation.
Coordinate with your carpenter
Discuss the layout and final measurements with the person making or installing the furniture. Ask them for a material list that identifies the required products, sizes and quantities. Keep the latest version of the list with you when you visit the showroom.
Include the finishing details
Alongside boards and decorative surfaces, remember to discuss hardware and adhesives with your carpenter. List the fittings and other items your project needs so your enquiry covers the complete requirement. Confirm suitability using the relevant product information.
Review the order together
Check the material list, product codes, quantities and available stock before ordering. Ask how the materials will be collected or delivered and who will receive them. Clear responsibilities and written specifications make the next steps easier to organise.
