Look at the whole room

Start with the elements you plan to keep: your floor, wall colour, doors and existing furniture. Photograph them and use them as a reference while exploring finishes. A finish you like on its own should also feel right alongside the rest of the room.

Keep the first shortlist simple

Choose a small group of finishes instead of trying to compare every option at once. You might begin with a main colour, a wood-look finish and an accent. This is a starting point for discussion, rather than a rule for every room.

See samples in person

Screens and photographs can change how a colour appears. Compare available samples in person and, where possible, look at them under lighting similar to your room. Check how the finish looks beside the other materials in your shortlist.

Record the exact selection

Once you decide, note the company, product name, shade or design code and finish. Share these details with your carpenter and confirm availability with the showroom before you finalise your order.
